MEET THE STAFF
Richard T. Carroll, Ph.D.
Co-founder and CEO
As co-founder of Child Aid, Richard has logged many an hour traveling to the furthest corners of Guatemala and Oaxaca. The multi-talented Dr. Carroll counts clinical psychologist, and professor among his former professions and financial planner and CEO of Child Aid among his current.
A New Yorker by birth, Rick lives in Portland with his wife and fellow founder of Child Aid, Nancy Press. He has a BA in philosophy from the University of Detroit and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from St. John’s University. When not in an airplane, Rick can be found bicycling or walking the Oregon trails with his favorite hiking partner, Gythio, German Shepherd extraordinaire.
Nancy Press, Ph.D.
Co-founder and Chair, Board of Directors
As co-founder of Child Aid, Nancy has seen the organization she helped start to honor her father grow into a vibrant organization with a diverse and multi-talented Board of Directors. Dr. Press’ training as a cultural anthropologist helped shape Child Aid’s vision of partnering with grassroots groups to help them become self-sufficient.
Today, helping with daily Child Aid activities provides ballast to Nancy’s full-time work as a professor at the Oregon Health & Science University. Nancy graduated with a BA from Sarah Lawrence College and, after a sojourn in the world of publishing, received a Ph.D. from Duke University. Also a New Yorker by birth, Nancy loves living in Portland and always feels more at home when any plane she is in crosses the Rockies westward.

Prior to relocating to the “Land of Eternal Spring,” John lived in the “Land of Eternal Drizzle,” Seattle, where he led the international service-learning program at Seattle Pacific University.
