Our deep apologies on the late notice - we thought we had invited you last week but had technical difficulties!!  Next Thursday, November 9 you are invited to a Breakfast for the Soul focusing on the police and our community.  Shauna Curphey, Staff Attorney from the Northwest Constitutional Rights Center (NCRC) and Alejandro Queral, Executive Director of NCRC will join us and tell us about the ground-breaking community listening sessions on racial profiling that took place earlier this year as well as the work they are doing with Sisters’ customers and others to know their rights in interactions with police officers and other law enforcement officials. Copwatch’s Dan Handelman will also speak about the recent death of James Chasse, a mentally ill man who died during a police arrest, with an emphasis on what we can do to as citizens and activists.

The Breakfast will be at Sisters at 133 NW Sixth Ave., runs from 7:30 am to 9 am, and is free to all.  (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or by calling (503) 222-5694, ext. 19.

Winterfolk Lineup Announced
Sisters ImageUtah Phillips

Winterfolk is on the way!  This year’s show is at the lovely Aladdin Theatre on Saturday, February 3, 2007. Check out this amazing concert lineup:

  • Mary Flower
  • Dan Wetzel and Kristin Granger
  • Tom May
  • Mark Ross

  • Utah Phillips
  • Kate Power and Steve Einhorn
  • Casey Neill Band
    • Utah Phillips, amazing national story-telling treasure and ‘Golden Voice of the Great Southwest’ is once again headlining.  Utah’s songs and stories are deep and powerful enough to dispel despair and resurrect our love of community and country even in the face of war. An evening with Utah is like a rich shot of Hope in the arm!  If you have never heard him perform, don’t miss this opportunity.

For a sneak preview of Utah’s show, catch him November 9 at the Aladdin Theater.

Winterfolk tickets will go on sale Dec. 15, in time for holiday gifts.  Tickets cost $26 advance and $28 on the day of the show, and will be available at Ticketmaster outlets, the Aladdin Theater 3017 SE Milwaukie, and at both Music Millennium stores.

Don’t forget that tickets are on sale now for the spectacular John Greven L-00V guitar ($3200 value), an exact replica of the one Woody Guthrie loved best!  Raffle tickets cost $10 and are on sale in the Sisters office at 618 NW Davis, and at Artichoke Music at 3130 SE Hawthorne Blvd (sorry, the law prohibits that we sell them online or mail them to you).  The raffle drawing will be at the Winterfolk concert.
