True generosity requires more of us than kindly impulse. Above all it requires imagination - the capacity to see people in all their perplexities and needs, and to know how to expend ourselves effectively for them. - I.A.R. Wylie

Food Donations

Thank-you for thinking about your neighbors in need.  There are always food items that we can put to good use in the cafe!  We serve 350-450 meals a day, and so we usually need large-quantity goods to fit with menu planning.  Please “ask before you drop” by calling Cathy Mounts (503) 222-5694 ext. 24 or (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

We are looking for:

  • Larger-quantity fresh veggies
  • Any size peanut butter jars
  • Any size tuna cans
  • Fully-frozen turkeys

We would love to accept restaurant-sized cans or cases of:

  • Mixed Fruit
  • Peaches
  • Pears
  • Tuna
  • Chili

We’re also looking for unopened packages of:

  • Rice
  • Pinto Beans
  • Sugar
  • White Flour
  • Spaghetti
  • Oats
  • Cereal (cornflakes etc.)

Please Note:

Sisters Of The Road is a licensed restaurant, and we follow Oregon Health Code regulations very closely.  We must be extremely careful with perishable food, and we can only accept food that has been made in a restaurant-licensed kitchen.

We cannot accept:

  • Home-made goods
  • Previously-served food such as deli platters, dessert trays, pickle and olive trays, cookies.
  • Milk or Meat (with the frozen-turkey exception noted above)
  • Boxes of random canned food
  • Any opened packages of food

To inquire if your banquet left-overs, home-baked goods, or non-bulk food can be used elsewhere, please call Blanchet House (503.226.3911), the Union Gospel Mission (503.274.4483), or the Downtown Chapel (503.228.0746) - all located in downtown Portland.  FISH Emergency Services on SE Hawthorne may also take non-perishable food (503.233.5533).

To find out more about donating food to Sisters, call Cafe Manager Cathy Mounts at (503) 222-5694 ext. 24 or (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
